Sources Library

Background

CSA aims to argue from facts, not slogans. This page lists the main reports, data sources, official publications and reference material used across the site. Sources are grouped by topic so readers can check the evidence for themselves.

Where possible, CSA relies on primary sources such as government departments, regulators, market operators, parliamentary inquiries, official statistics, legislation, and major research institutions. Media reporting may sometimes be used for background or recent developments, but it should not be the foundation of a major policy claim where stronger source material exists.

This page will grow over time as new CSA pages are built.

How CSA Uses Sources {#how-csa-uses-sources}

CSA should use sources in a consistent order of preference:

1. Primary sources first

Where possible, CSA should begin with:

  • legislation
  • official statistics
  • government departments
  • regulators
  • market operators
  • parliamentary reports
  • court or tribunal material where relevant

2. Research sources second

These include:

  • respected economic institutions
  • research bodies
  • peer-reviewed academic work
  • recognised technical bodies

3. Media sources last

Media can be useful for:

  • recent developments
  • political reactions
  • public controversy
  • event summaries

But media should normally not be the only source behind an important factual claim.

4. Clear attribution

Where a page relies heavily on a particular report, dataset, or inquiry, that source should be named clearly within the page text or in a short source note.

5. Living document

This library is intended to grow as CSA pages are added and updated.

Closing Note

Readers are entitled to ask where claims come from. That is fair. In fact, it is healthy. A movement based on common sense should not fear transparency. It should welcome it.
